  Description:  This ride starts at the Manhattan Beach Pier by the Life Guard station. The fast group will go first, then Group two follows. Both groups head north up to the Ballona Creek Bridge where we sometimes meet other riders. The groups then head east on the Ballona Creek Bike Path, terminating at Centinela Ave. We immediately turn around and return past the bridge to the Playa Del Rey Lagoon restrooms for some social time and a group photo. The group then does a loop around Westchester Parkway with possible sprints in both directions. Group 2 will sometimes short cut the loop on Westchester Blvd to catch up with Group 1. A regroup point after the loop exists at a turnout on Pershing, just southwest of the intersection with Westchester Blvd.   

  Some riders will sprint and we regroup several times, allowing for multiple fitness levels (L3, L2 & L1) to do the ride. The fast group's sprints on Ballona Creek and Westchester segments have been known to hit 25-28+ mph at times. If you're not a sprinter, don't worry - everyone waits at the Playa Del Rey lagoon regroup point.

  Description: This short late afternoon ride is ideal for members who would like to improve their overall riding performance and become better climbers.  The ride incorporates short hill climbs and rollers in Palos Verdes, making for a nice hill climbing training ride. Gorgeous ocean view vistas are a bonus we added, free of charge. Expect a 20-mile, two-hour ride with about 2,000 feet of climbing.

  We ride through the short bridges of the Venice Canals. After the SaMo restroom stop, we climb up Amalfi Canyon to Capri for a great view of West Los Angeles. On the descent we will loop around Will Rogers Park.  After a brief half mile group paceline on Sunset Blvd, we ride to the Pacific Palisades Blufftop for a view of the Malibu Coastline. We last did this ride six months ago, on September 2.

  The Tuesday ride varies by design. If you want novelty, this is your ride. Routes vary between ~35-55 miles, 1000-3000 feet of climbing. When we go to an eating place, expect a "digestion pace" on the return.
  
  We often go to places that would otherwise be too crowded on a weekend (eg, Hollywood Sign, Inspiration Point, Porto's, etc). We are usually done by 1-2pm, and a coffee or meal stop is customary (usually at the end; sometimes that's the destination).

  This is a hillside lot with ~148 steps to climb to fully explore the garden. You are strongly advised to bring supplementary footwear (e.g., sandals in a daypack). The owner (Dr. Robby Gordon) also lets us into his home, where every nook and cranny has art works.
  

  The garden has 160+ sculptures made by various artists. This is a private residence made available for film shoots and events, as well as group visits such as ours. It's quirky and unique - exactly what we look for on an LA Explorer ride.   A tour of Jacaranda street trees in Culver City, West LA and Santa Monica. This will be a fairly easy and flat ride. We take the Ballona Creek path to Syd K park then ride in neighborhood streets through the cities to the north.
  
  We may stop to take pictures at particularly inspiring sites - just call it out if you want to stop to take a picture. I used the publicly available TreeKeeper database to research the locations of Jacaranda street trees.
